      We have really enjoyed welcoming all the children into Year 1. Over these first two weeks, we will be spending lots of time getting to know the children and settling them into their new classrooms.

      Please send book bags in everyday.

      Information from the 'Back to School' meeting is downloadable at the bottom of this page. 

      Key Information

      We start at 8:45am We finish at 3:20pm

      Don’t forget book bags, coats, water bottle, and named PE kits. These will stay in school and will get sent home to be washed at the end of term.

      Phonics
      This week we will be continuing revision of Phase 4. In year 1 we start with a revision of sounds taught in Reception to ensure that children are secure in their decoding and blending skills before moving onto learning new sounds. This week we will be focusing on:

       

      Handwriting focus: 

      Our whole school follows the Unlocking Letters and Sounds Handwriting scheme. This term we are looking at number formation mastery. This week we will be writing 2 and 3. As part of our revision of common exception words, we will also be practicing writing these words informally throughout the week: me, we, be, he

      Writing
      This week we will be writing simple sentences. We will be focusing on capital letters and full stops.

      Reading
      All children have now received a book based on their end of Reception assessments. We will continue reading with children throughout the week and changing books. Please ensure books are brought in daily.

      Maths   

      Number fluency
      Counting forwards and backwards from any number within 20.
      Number recognition within 10 (and 20).
      Number formation
      Physical counting out so many claps/jumps/stamps

      Main learning
      This week we will be starting our Place Value within 10 unit.
      To represent numbers to 10 in different ways, using objects and pictorial representations.

      Wider Curriculum

      PE- SHINE - Team Games

      Class PE - Fundamental Movement Skills: To explore how the body moves differently when running at different speeds.

      Music - We will be learning to move, play and sing in time to the pulse

      History: Learning question: What is it like in our community? 

      PSHE: What emotions can I recognise?

      Art: To know names of colours, to use adjectives to describe colour and colour mixing.
