    Term 4, Week 1

    Welcome back! We are looking forward to seeing the children back for the start of Term 4 refreshed and ready to go! We are looking forward to World Book Day on March 5th.

     

    Costume Swap

     

    To encourage sustainability we will be facilitating a costume swap ahead of World Book Day on 5th March. This will involve families donating pre-loved costumes. The first week back after the half term holiday a box will be located in the entrance hall for your donations. These costumes will then be available to take on both Parents Evenings from the entrance hall. 



     


    English:


    Phonics:

    This week we will be starting Phase 5b of our phonics.

     

    Writing:

    This term we are going to be using our sentence writing skills that we have been working so hard on and beginning to write across different genres. 

    Our key learning points for the next two weeks will be: 

    • Being able to understand and explain that a setting is where the action is happening in a story.

    • How to define and identify nouns and adjectives.

    • To use ‘and’ to join sentences.

    We will be writing a description of a setting from The Storm Whale, using our senses to help us describe. 

    Reading:
    Please continue to read daily with your child at home to support. Please remember to log this in your child’s reading record to support us to know if how many times they have read the book at home when we come to read with them.

    Maths   

    Maths fluency skills:

    Recall of number bonds to 10  and 20

    Partitioning into tens and ones (within 50)

    Number recognition within 50

    Number formation within 50

    Recall of 1 more/less within 20

    Addition and subtraction facts within 10
     

    Main learning is Place value within 50

    To know that height is a type of length.

    To compare length and height using language long(er)(est)/short(er)(est)/tall(er)(est).

    Use non-standard units to measure length and height.

     

    To understand that the non-standard units they use need to be of equal length (ie. can’t mix the units they

    To know how to use a ruler to measure length, starting from 0cm.

    To understand that a standard unit of measurement is required as non-standard units vary in length and size.



    Wider Curriculum

     

    Shine PE Team games

    PE  - we will be starting to learn dances for our play

    Geography - We will be learning about hot and cold places and where they are in relation to the equator.

    Music - We will be learning songs for our play!

    PSHE- We will be thinking about the different adults in school and their roles. 

     

    Science: This week we will be recapping the question ‘what is an animal? ‘
