Reading

This week we will be moving on to a new unit of work based on ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. We will be developing our understanding of the text by focusing on scientific vocabulary, retrieving key facts, and summarising information about the world around us. The children will explore ideas about the Earth, space, and sea creatures, and will practise finding and recording important information from what they have read. 

 

Please continue to read daily with your child at home and record this in their reading record so we can support and monitor their progress.

 

Writing
This week we will be starting our new writing unit based on poetry. The children will be learning about key language features such as alliteration, rhyme and synonyms. They will practise identifying initial and end sounds in words, spotting rhyming patterns in poems, and exploring how different words can have similar meanings to help create clear and interesting descriptions. The children will also begin to compose and write their own simple sentences using vocabulary they have collected.

Maths   

This week we will be focusing on place value within 100. We will be partitioning numbers within 100 into tens and ones and using this to help us find 1 more and 1 less than a number within 100 as well as finding 10 more and 10 less.

 

Wider Curriculum

 

Shine PE: games outside and fundamental skills.

 

Science: This week we will carry on looking at animals and comparing them to find out what is similar and what is different?

R+WV - Our learning question this week is ‘How do we know babies are special?’

Geography - We will be continuing to learn about hot and cold places and the different between the North Pole and the South Pole.

Computing - We will start learning about animations
