    Term 6, Week 1

    English

    Phonics:

    Reading

Thank you for your continued support with reading at home. The Headteacher’s award for reading at home is on the horizon for many: keep going Year 1!

    Writing

After half term, children will look at developing their storytelling and sentence-writing skills. They will practise composing sentences orally before writing them down, helping them to hear and build complete ideas. Children will practise using the conjunction “and” to join words and sentences together to make their writing more detailed and interesting. They will also explore how stories are organised with a clear beginning, middle and end, using familiar tales to help them understand sequencing and story structure before creating and ordering their own ideas.

    Reading

With our new class text, children will explore how illustrations can provide important clues and support understanding of a story. They will also learn how non-fiction texts are organised using headings and sub-headings to help locate information quickly. Throughout the week, children will practise reading with expression, discussing evidence from texts and pictures, and improving their confidence with common exception words and retrieval skills.
