    Term 1, Week 3

    Welcome to Reception’s weekly blog!

    Every Friday, we will share an overview of the learning planned for the following week, along with any important notices, reminders and updates that you may need.

    Thank you for welcoming us into your homes this week. It has been such a lovely experience getting to know the children in their home environments, and we have been incredibly impressed with how confidently the children have settled into school over their first two days. It has been wonderful to see them coming into school so happily and beginning to get to know their new routines.

    We will still be following our reduced timetable next week. Please remember to order your child’s lunch on the SwiftKitchen app, selecting the appropriate days: Monday or Tuesday depending on Group A or Group B, and all children Wednesday–Friday. Please tell your child what they will be having for lunch each morning. 

    We are looking forward to another lovely week with the children!

    Noticeboard 

    • Please make sure your child brings a coat with them every day.
    • When dropping your child off at school in the morning, please make sure they do not play with the resources that have been carefully placed for learning later in the day.

    • Understand questions such as who; why; when; where and how.
    • Ask relevant questions or make relevant comments in relation to what they have heard.

    • To talking about our families and thinking about how they are special.

    Physical development 

    Term 1 PE theme: Introduction to PE

    • We will be going into the school hall and learning to follow instructions and stop safely.

    Phonics
    • To know the phonemes (sounds) s, a, t and p.

    Reading
    • To blend words using known phonemes in phonics lessons.

    Maths
    • Match objects – Find identical items (“same” vs “different”)
    • Match pictures and objects – Match items to their pictures 
    • Identify a set – Group items into sets 
    • Sort objects by type – Sort by one feature, like colour or shape

    Understanding the World

    History (through All About Me box):

    • Talk about past and present events in their own life.
    • Know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities, cultures and traditions.

    Geography and R+WV (through All About Me box):

    • Talk about their immediate family and community and some of their routines, culture and celebrations.
    • Recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways.
    • Name the street where their home and school are. 

    Religion and Worldviews:

    • To say who is special to you. 

    Expressive Arts and Design 
    • Accurately use a range of small tools - scissors, cutlery, stapler, hole punch, trowel
